How small women’s pockets are, visualized

No matter how much women complain about the smallness of their clothing pockets, or complete lack thereof, brands refuse to do anything about it or acknowledge the problem. Maybe some pictures will help. Just how badly are women being gaslit about what constitutes a pocket?

The people of The Pudding have gone to the trouble of showing us, through extensive visual documentation, just how little pocket women are afforded in today’s society. “On average, the pockets in women’s jeans are 48% shorter and 6.5% narrower than men’s pockets,” the authors of the extensive study write.

If that weren’t enough, the page also includes a simulator to show how various smartphones and items fit in the two genders of pockets. However, it appears flawed in that it shows an iPhone X fitting snugly into a woman-pocket, which as well all know has never happened in the history of the iPhone X or really any iPhone, for that matter. Gap, Guess, J. Crew, and Old Navy were the brands that appeared, to my eye, to have the biggest pocket gender gap; Abercrombie and Fitch has the most equitable pocket real estate by far, so much so that it might be worth braving the perfume cloud that encases the entire mall. Or maybe we all just abandon “women’s” pants.

If you need more sexist pocket content there is at least a book’s worth here:
