Drake’s very Scorpio album is coming out during Cancer season

We asked an astrologer who had never heard of Drake what it all means.

This week Drake, noted rapper and Scorpio, will release his fifth studio album Scorpion. In typical fashion, Drake has been building anticipation with an album trailer and billboards around Toronto, which have led some to believe that Scorpion will be a double album. (Lots of albums have A Sides and B Sides, but Drake’s last record, 2017’s More Life, was also an overstuffed affair.)

But more notably than the singles, Drake’s high-profile rap beef with Pusha-T has people wondering how he may respond — and what kinds of gossip he may reveal with the release. Though the feud has theoretically been called off by Rap-A-Lot Records CEO J. Prince, Pusha-T’s revelation that Drake is “hiding a child” means the professional and personal stakes for the album are very high. And the fact the album, named in reference to the sun sign he is very proud of, is dropping during Cancer season, a notoriously emotional time of year in astrology from June 22 to July 22, must mean something. Right?

Armed with an uncorroborated natal chart (that surmises that in addition to having a sun sign in Scorpio, Drake is a Leo rising with a Cancer moon) The Outline spoke to New York astrologer Thomas Kearns about what it all could mean. He had never heard of Drake before, but he decided to give it a go.

On catching feelings

In general in astrology Scorpio is thought to be the most powerful sign emotionally, but they also have some bad parts of that reputation as well. If a Scorpion is really frustrated, it will supposedly sting itself to death. People who have been on the wrong side of a Scorpio personality know what a Scorpio can do. With a Leo ascendent they are now much more capable of expressing outwardly.

On needing the spotlight

Leo loves being in the forefront being on stage and getting all the recognition and the pats on the back and the money and everything else that goes with it. Leo just wants to be loved by everybody. Now, with the Cancer moon that would probably be in the Twelfth house, there would be a need for some type of spiritual sensitivity. [A Cancer moon] should make him a little bit more sensitive. And actually, Cancer moons have better receptivity to the public, as the sign of Cancer rules the general public. [During Cancer season they] get a little bit more sensitive, more intense.

On being secretive

He can probably communicate the depths of his feelings, being a Scorpio, if he wants to. They don't always like to let you know everything they're feeling; they like to control that. But the moon, the moon in Cancer makes that a little bit more gentle. You don't wanna mess with this guy!

On owning the moment

He should hold off [on releasing Scorpion] about two weeks because the planet Jupiter, which is the planet of good fortune and expansion, is retrograde right now. It goes direct on July 10th [and] starts moving forward in the Sign of Scorpio, so that would be better. [Cancer season] might still have a positive effect on it, but I don't know his chart. If I knew his chart I could see better like where his sun is in relationship to Jupiter. Jupiter might be right on top of the sun and that's fabulous.
