At the Oscars earlier this month, actor Frances McDormand put the concept of the inclusion rider at the forefront of everyone’s mind. A means of fighting for diversity and inclusivity in the entertainment industry, an inclusion rider is a contractual device that stars can use to ensure the projects they work on hire more than just white men. The popularity of the idea has grown immensely since, with actors including Michael B. Jordan, Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon announcing that they will be implementing inclusion riders going forward. But outside of that, most people had never seen the actual words of the discrimination-fighting tactic ever before.

Last night, the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative made an inclusion rider template available to all via an announcement on its Twitter page. Stacy Smith, the founder of the Initiative, established the inclusion rider or equity rider concept back in 2014. “Please RT far and wide!” the post encouraged, reversing the organization’s previous policy of sharing inclusion rider examples only with people actively implementing them into contracts. Now, the language of the much-hyped legal concept is available to all without restriction, bringing inclusion riders one step closer to accessibility and proliferation.
