“Rape is rape, in New York City and everywhere else.”
Eric Phillips, a spokesperson for the mayor, responded with this quote after an NYPD captain’s comments sparked outrage.
NYPD Captain Peter Rose told a reporter “stranger rapes” are a higher priority than cases in which the victim knew the rapist.
New Yorkers reacted furiously. The city and NYPD are in damage control mode, but the captain has not been disciplined.
