New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has declared his presidential bid. Cool. I have nothing but respect for a man who takes his motorcade 11 miles from the Upper East Side to Park Slope in order to work out at his favorite YMCA because he says keeps him connected to the community where he once lived. Just kidding, he blows.
Anyway, I would like to share my favorite thing about Bill de Blasio, which is that in 2013, when he was running for mayor, the Daily Mail thought his name was Bill de Blasioon.
One can assume that there is a mundane copy error at fault here, and that the phrase “Bill de Blasio on” somehow became “Bill de Blasioon,” setting off a chain reaction that produced the headline “Causing a racquet! Susan Sarandon Hosts Ping Pong Party for New York Mayoral Candidate Bill de Blasioon,” along with the sentence “So it should come as no surprise to fans Susan Sarandon hosted a fundraiser in support of New York mayoral hopeful Bill de Blasioon on Sunday.”
Bill de Blasioon. Gives him a Dutch vibe, which is nice, especially for a mayor of New Amsterdam, Breuckelen, and the Broncksland.
In any case, I feel fortunate to have witnessed this, screenshotted it, and kept it stored for six years in my Gmail drafts folder for this exact moment.
Have a great weekend.
