Julian Casablancas corners you at a party

Remember that guy who thought he knew everything about “good” music? Who would corner you at a party to lecture you on how George was the most underappreciated Beatle? Who called anyone who hasn’t heard [insert vaguely underground band’s middling new album here] a poser? I could be talking about the standard “dude in a band” from college, or I could be talking about the Strokes’ Julian Casablancas, the subject of Vulture’s latest viral interview.

In the wide-ranging conversation, Casablancas talks about the evils of the laws governing corporations, bemoans how “good” music doesn’t get the attention it deserves on the internet, and how Bill Maher is “funny.” Casablancas shows his entire ass by talking about how Jimi Hendrix wasn’t popular during his lifetime (he was):

How One Direction’s popularity speaks to the death of culture:

How art is objective:

It’s a lot, and only some of it makes sense. Casablancas’ other band, The Voidz, is releasing a new album on March 30.
