Trump’s Justice Department will target affirmative action next

They’re looking to sue universities.

President Trump’s Justice Department, led by Attorney General Jeff Sessions is looking towards affirmative action as its next civil rights target, according to an internal government announcement obtained by the New York Times. The document suggests that the Justice Department is getting ready to redirect resources to investigate and sue “colleges and universities over affirmative action admissions policies deemed to discriminate against white applicants.”

Yes, the Trump administration seems to believe that affirmative action discriminates — apparently in a criminal fashion — against white people.

The United States Supreme Court has ruled several times that universities may use affirmative action admissions policies, making use of race as one factor to consider in an applicant, though it has ruled against the usage of quotas.

Trump’s White House has in a very short span of time pushed through several significant changes in civil rights positions, most recently last week suggesting that courts should not interpret the ban on sex-based discrimination as covering sexual orientation.
